Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has trumped predecessor Black Ops in terms of revenue generated in its opening week in the UK, GfK Chart-Track has revealed.
Activision's FPS juggernaut has sold roughly the same amount of units as Black Ops, but was hailed as having the 'highest grossing opening week of all time for any entertainment title' by the sales monitor.
At the end of last week (November 11th) Activision announced that COD: MW3 had made an estimated $400 million in the UK and US on its first day of release alone, shifting a beefy 6.5 million units.
Arch-rival Battlefield 3 from EA managed to sell five million in its first week by comparison.
"We believe the launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is the biggest entertainment launch of all time in any medium, and we achieved this record with sales from only two territories," said Bobby Kotick, CEO, Activision Blizzard, Inc.
'This marks the third consecutive year that the Call of Duty franchise has set day one launch records across all forms of entertainment, something no other entertainment franchise in any medium has ever accomplished,' the publisher added in its release.
Furthermore, Activision reported that 'according to Microsoft, after just two days, the number of gamers playing simultaneously on Xbox® Live® set a new peak concurrency record'.
